Joskai aims to create an ecosystem to up-skill and co-create with the undiscovered skilled artisans from remote villages/craft clusters of North East and other parts of India. All the locally sourced textiles from artisans are created into constructed designer wear products in their in-house studio unit in New Delhi.

Introducing

The Founders

The founder and Creative head of the brand Sujaya Hazarika , has been passionate about textiles and design since a young age. After working in the industry for several years and travelling extensively through various craft clusters, she now aims to bring her passion for authentic textiles and art prints to life through her brand vision. Belonging to a region rich in arts and culture she wants to bring forth the story of creating and innovating beautiful textiles through her designs and is highly inspired by her regions culture and crafts.

Meet the Makers

The brand works with grass root level artisans of the ethnic communitites of Morigaon district and Sualkuchi village in Assam and other craft clusters across India.

The Process

The aim is to co-create designs with the artisans, source the local fabrics which are made in handwoven mulberry and eri silk and cotton to sustain the culture related to weaving. Most of the weavers and artisans the brand works with use their home based units and handlooms. They are paid fair wages for the yardages of fabrics woven by them.

Standards

All garments are created in small batches to minimize waste. Working with weaver clusters on an on-demand basis, the brand ensures fair wages and encourages use of traditional weaving and handloom techniques still practiced in the homes of the makers themselves.

100% Hand Crafted

All steps involved in creating the final product are done by hand. Utilising skills of artisans involved, makes each piece, one of a kind.

Reduced Carbon

Low or minimal use of power, hence reducing their carbon emissions. These brands have opted for slower yet more expensive greener methods of production.

Community Focused

Improving livelihoods of marginalised communities who have suffered the most with the advent of fast fashion, either through artisanal collaborations or simply giving enough back.
